Background

The Government of Kenya has expressed its interest in developing Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) in the agricultural sector. However, the NAMA mechanism is new and climate change mitigation in the agriculture sector as a co-benefit of food security is still being tested. The overall purpose of the project was to strengthen frameworks and guidance for NAMAs through the development of a jurisdictional approach that simultaneously delivers mitigation, food security and livelihood benefits to the rural poor of Kenya. The NAMA should focus on ‘transformational’ agribusinesses with a high climate, food security and development impact. The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) has contracted UNIQUE to design and develop this NAMA.
