Agroforestry for the Restoration of Agroecosystems
Background
Climate change is threatening agricultural production and productivity in South America, where large areas are exposed to increasing soil degradation. The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) is supporting the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to generate information aimed at supporting the adoption of improved climate-smart agroforestry and silvopastoral based systems (AFS) by smallholder communities in Nicaragua and Paraguay. Given our long-term experience in AFS in Paraguay, UNIQUE was commission to support to CIAT to conduct project activities in the country.
