Assessment of Ecosystem Services for Forests
Background
Forests in conurbations provide social services that go far beyond the values that can be presented in forest accounting. These special services, such as local recreation or climate compensation and air pollution control, are summarized under the technical term "ecosystem services". The Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Nature and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia has commissioned UNIQUE to present the ecosystem services of all forests in the city of Essen, the Green Capital of Europe 2017. In addition, a concept should be developed for use in other municipalities.
Our contribution
- Data analysis for the representation of nine ecosystem services of the forests in the city of Essen
- Presentation of the results in a geographical information system.
- Creation of a "step concept" that supports the presentation in other municipalities.
