Best Practice: Valuating Environmental Compensation Measures
Background
The establishment of large-scale conservation areas in Germany may conflict with forest management for timber. Some conservation approaches result in economic disadvantages to forest owners. The valuation of these economic effects is set out in expert reports based on different types of regional or federal guidelines for forest valuation and economic control parameters. UNIQUE supported the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) on the technical assessment of the expert reports. Currently, there is an increasing demand in Germany for forest areas and individual trees for nature conservation. The influence of these nature conservation measures on economic control parameters and forest value assessment techniques was examined and presented.
