Climate Catalogue for Coffee
Background
Coffee is one of the most important globally traded commodities, providing livelihoods for millions of smallholder farmers. Climate change is affecting negatively the quantity and quality of coffee production. A consortium of organizations engaged in the sustainable development of the coffee sector is calling for a Climate Catalogue for Coffee, with the aim to create a collective understanding of climate change adaptation and mitigation at the producer level. A comprehensive stock-taking and gap analysis of current efforts across major coffee producing countries will provide guidance to all stakeholders in the sector. UNIQUE was selected to develop the Catalogue due to its extensive experience in land use related topics, including climate change mitigation and adaption.
Our contribution
- Mapping existing adaptation and mitigation approaches in coffee value chains.
- Analyzing producer countries’ knowledge on and resources for climate adaptation and mitigation.
- Recommendations on climate change specific investments and funding resources for the coffee sector.
