Development of agricultural carbon finance projects
Background
The World Bank supports an initiative to identify Carbon Finance Projects in Kenya’s agricultural and agroforestry sector. The overall purpose of the Bank’s support for such a program is to demonstrate that emission reductions in the agricultural sector are real and measurable and benefit the rural poor. They should therefore receive stronger consideration in greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation agreements beyond 2012. UNIQUE supported the development of two carbon finance projects in Kenya’s agricultural sector (on smallholder coffee and on Sustainable Land Management) in close collaboration with the selected project proponents.
