Impact Assessment of Ungulates on Forests in Brandenburg
Background
The German federal state of Brandenburg has not yet carried out an inventory of the impact of ungulates through game browsing and bark peeling. According to state law, however, such inventory needs to be implemented for all types of forest ownership. Through the inventory and the evaluation of the results, the forestry and the hunting administration will be supported in decision-making towards the regulation of ungulate populations. The inventory is supposed to be comprehensible and verifiable for forest owners and hunters. UNIQUE conducted various tasks in order to develop a concept that meets these inventory requirements.
