Livelihood Carbon Project Development
Background
The DANONE Livelihood Fund creates social value for rural communities and contributes to their food security through the restoration of their ecosystems. The fund supported a livelihood project developed and implemented by the NAANDI Foundation in the Araku Valley in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. The main objective was to improve the livelihoods of tribal communities. The project established 6,000 ha of mixed fruit and spice tree agroforestry systems. The project contributed to the rehabilitation of degraded and underutilized land into a high carbon multiple use landscape while improving food security and enabling the establishment of tribal-owned value adding to herb and fruit processing plants. UNIQUE was contracted as a technical service provider by the DANONE Livelihood Fund.
