Monitoring System for Climate Smart Agriculture
Background
Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) represents an excellent opportunity to profitably improve agriculture's sustainability. Nonetheless, financing from local banks for agricultural producers generally, and CSA specifically, remains limited. Brazil's Low-Carbon Agriculture (ABC) Plan has channeled billions of dollars to nominal CSA projects via local banks. However, banks’ ability to track spending under the Program is limited. In this context, the IFC hired Unique to assess monitoring systems for CSA. The purpose of the assessment is to understand the bank’s monitoring capacity, estimate the current CSA impact of the ABC Plan, and recommend new monitoring systems to the IFC.
