Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions for Forestry
Background
‘Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions’ or NAMAs are voluntary actions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries. Together with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) Government of India, GIZ is implementing a project with the title “Development and Management of NAMA in India” under the Indo-German bilateral cooperation. The Government of India has chosen the waste and forestry sector for the development of two NAMA concepts. UNIQUE and its consortium partner, Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), were selected to develop a NAMA for forestry in India and a corresponding, thorough measuring, reporting and verification (MRV) system.
