Promote Low-Emission Food Consumption Pathways
Background
With the global population projected to reach over 9.6 billion in 2050, it remains a major challenge to ensure food security while also mitigating climate change in the agricultural sector. The majority of mitigation activities in the agricultural sector focus on supply-side approaches, i.e. improving productivity and yields. Demand-side mitigation options have received relatively less attention, despite having a larger mitigation potential than supply-side approaches. To address major challenges such as climate change and food security, a mixture of both supply-side and demand-side mitigation approaches is required. UNIQUE was selected to support the Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security to assess the potential for demand-side mitigation approaches and to identify investment opportunities to support these measures.
Our contribution
- Revision of demand-side mitigation approaches.
- Identifying potential synergies and tradeoffs between demand and supply-side mitigation approaches.
- Identification of investment opportunities for the private sector and public institutions
