Public-Private Partnerships for Forest Landscape Restoration
Background
Significant financial support is required in order to achieve the ambitious Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) commitments as globally agreed. Both public and private (in-kind) finance will be necessary. The German development cooperation, already a major supporter of FLR activities, is planning to intensify its efforts, especially through the AFR100 initiative in sub-Saharan Africa. The study developed a guide for how to systematically screen Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to attract in-kind private finance for FLR in Sub-Sahara Africa. The guide was refined through a pilot test in Ethiopia. UNIQUE was selected to carry out this assignment due to its experience in the forest sector, its focus on private sector investments in sustainable land use and its involvement in the political processes related to FLR.
