Sustainable Land Management Programme
Background
Land degradation, climate change and other environmental problems are a pressing issue in Ethiopia. In order to reduce their impact on the production and development potentials, the Government initiated the Sustainable Land Management Programme (SLMP). The KfW and the European Union support the third phase of the SLMP Framework with two spatially distinct modules. The German contribution focuses on the Simien and Bale Mountain National Parks. The framework addresses integrated watershed and landscape management. UNIQUE in consortium with GITEC was responsible for the implementation. The aim was to up-scale the land use strategy greening for terrestial and aquatic resources and their adoption. Appropriate project management structures were implemented at all levels and actively included in the programme.
