Sustainable Multifunctional Land Use Systems
Background
Over the last 30 years, China afforested approximately 50 million hectares of plantation forests, including bamboo, which corresponds to 25% of the global afforested land in this period. The current 5-years-plan (2011-2015) aims for the first time to increase forest productivity and to improve timber stocks and forest stability. Lin²Value is a joint German-Chinese research project targeting the establishment of methodologies for the planned forest management strategies in the context of a transitioning toward a multifunctional forest sector. The scientific analyses and the elaboration of recommendations focus on the improvement of timber production and ecosystem services (e.g. water and erosion protection, carbon sequestration). The Lin²Value Project commissioned UNIQUE by as forestry specialist.
