Background

The World Bank Carbon Finance Unit and its BioCarbon Fund purchases project-based greenhouse gas emission reductions in developing countries and countries with economies in transition. As of today, the BioCF manages an active portfolio of more than 20 projects at different stages in the registration and verification process. One of those projects, the Uganda Nile Basin Reforestation Project has been developed under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and is being implemented by the National Forestry Authority (NFA) of the Government of Uganda. This project is composed of five small scale projects with a total size of the plantation reaching 2,137 hectares. UNIQUE provided training support to NFA for the preparation of the 2nd CDM verification.

Our contribution

  • Assessment of the cumulative emission reductions achieved since last verification.
  • Overall assessment and statement of the readiness of the project to be eligible for verification.
  • Verification audit training to NFA staff on the verification process and documentation required.
  • Monitoring capacity building covering the forest inventory and compilation of the CDM monitoring report.
