Windbreaks in Pamir
Background
Agricultural enterprises in the mountainous region of Gorno Badakhshan in Tajikistan experience structural, climatic and topographic challenges. In addition, there is limited access to arable and productive land which limits agriculture productivity and potential. The GIZ commissioned UNIQUE to undertake a study on shelterbelts for agricultural enterprises in the Pamir region. The study developed an empirical systematic, technical, and financial assessment on the use of shelterbelts, and focused on enabling relevant actors to independently assess whether and to what extent shelterbelts can produce direct and indirect economic benefits. The results were discussed with participants and stakeholders, and training materials were developed.
