Background

Climate warming in the Central Asian highlands is considered extreme, with temperatures rising at a pace two times faster than the global average. The Kyrgyz Republic developed priority directions for adaptation to climate change. “Forest and biodiversity” is one of seven priority areas, with the State Agency on Environmental Protection and Forestry (SAEPF) tasked to elaborate a biodiversity and forest adaptation to climate change program for 2015 – 2020. This program will consider the key concepts of ecosystem-based adaptation, with a working group established to engage relevant governmental and non-governmental stakeholders. UNIQUE supported the elaboration of the program by providing methodological coaching and technical guidance to the national working group.

Our contribution

  • Provision of methodological guidance and technical coaching of the national working group.
  • Ensure adherence with international best practices and experiences on ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA).
  • Review of the draft adaptation program.
