Ecosystem-Based Adaptation Framework Contract
Background
The high mountainous regions in Central Asia are characterized by a unique diversity of ecosystems. The consequences of climate change, coupled with unsustainable land use, damage the fragile mountain systems and reduce their regeneration ability - undermining local populations' livelihoods. GIZ is implementing the project “Ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) in high mountainous regions of Central Asia”. The project’s objective is to test innovative and cost-efficient approaches and strategies for EbA. At the same time, EbA needs to be incorporated into national policies and the broader international climate negotiations. UNIQUE supported the project to mainstream an EbA approach into policy processes at the national and regional levels. Furthermore, UNIQUE supported GIZ to provide evidence for cost-effective EbA measures in Central Asian.
Our contribution
- Integration of climate risk information and an EbA approach into strategies and policy processes.
- Integration of sub-national adaptation planning into national processes.
- Revision and analysis of implemented EbA measures, and assessment of their economic effectiveness.
- Cost-estimations for each final product based on the project’s process monitoring sheets.
