Background

Greenfield forestry expansions face execution risk across operations, cost and yield assumptions, and market volatility. At the same time, Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) carbon project add-ons must meet strict carbon methodology and compliance requirements. The fund under due diligence is a Brazil-based forestry fund developing eucalyptus and pine plantations and planning to pair them with an ARR carbon project. Unique was commissioned by the European-based Development Finance Institution to complete a full due diligence, including a site visit and assessments of fund capacity, nursery, operations, costs, markets and prices, the financial model, area audit, and carbon compliance.
