Feasibility study on biomass-fired electricity
Background
Aldwych International, a UK based power company specialized in developing and implementing power projects in Africa, aims to establish a 50 MW biomass power plant in Uganda. UNIQUE was responsible for assessing the feasibility of the project and for identifying a suitable project location, as well as potential implementation partners.
Our contribution
- Data gathering on land-use, ecosystems, land purchasing/leasing opportunities, regulations.
- Identification of key stakeholders.
- Land-demand assessment.
- Verification of land suitability, following pre-defined selection criteria.
- Determination of optimal forestry or crop management strategy to produce sufficient biomass.
- Project economic analysis incorporating Renewable Energy Policy and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
