ForestFlux - Forest Carbon Flux and Storage Mapping Service
Background
With forestry-related Earth Observation (EO) applications, it is possible to predict forest structural variables, carbon flux and calculate the carbon balance of enterprises. This involve the usage and production of large in situ and remote sensing data sets, which currently are not optimally linked. The recent release of the Copernicus Program for the delivery of freely available satellite images, and the advances in research present the conditions for a stable market for applications on forest carbon monitoring, ultimately optimising the synergies of isolated applications. With the objective of fostering the development of such a market, UNIQUE worked together with five partners in an EU-financed project, covering the areas of research, IT development, and business planning.
Our contribution
- Create the basis to regulate the interactions with pilot users and potential clients.
- Interact with two pilot user of the services: one in Germany and another in Paraguay.
- Development of the business and financial plan.
