Market Study for Fuel Wood
Background
Biomass power plants are necessary to promote Germany’s transition from fossil fuel-based energy sources towards renewable energies. Through successful government-funded actions the number of biomass power plants in Germany has significantly increased. Thus, demand for woody biomass is constantly growing and the competition for the resource has increased significantly. In 2011, a public energy provider with a total capacity of 60 MWel, assigned UNIQUE and Forst-Holz-Markt Consulting Dr. Lückge with an analysis of the current and future feedstock supply situation, timber market developments and the preparation of a price forecast. This data set was updated in the year 2014.
Our contribution
- Research, analysis and supporting interviews with regional experts.
- Assessment of feedstock situation within 250 km around two 30 MW power plant sites.
- Projection of future competition and supply situation.
- Current timber market and change drivers at international, national and regional levels.
- Evaluation of the influence of competitors within the radius of the biomass power plants.
- Preparation of a price forecast for raw material supply.
