REDD+ Readiness Preparation Proposal
Background
Suriname is participating in the UNFCCC REDD+ negotiations and has developed a Readiness Preparation Proposal (R-PP) within the ambit of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF). Suriname is also a partner country of the UN-REDD Programme. Comments provided by FCPF’s Technical Advisory Panel on early drafts of the R-PP showed that significant efforts had to be dedicated to create and strengthen the process of engagement of all stakeholders in the finalization and future implementation of the R-PP in the country. The national authorities of Suriname therefore sought the support of consultants to get the R-PP document prepared and to eventually gain access to $3.6m grant from the FCPF. This will allow the implementation of the REDD+ readiness activities and will culminate in a national REDD+ strategy.
