Study Design on Community Forestry
Background
Kyrgyzstan is currently implementing significant reforms in the forestry, grazing, mining and water management sectors in order to promote and improve natural resources management. The reforms in the forestry sector, which lagged behind other reforms, are supported by the German development cooperation (GIZ) together with the European Union and the World Bank. As a basis for the reform, GIZ called for a study to systematically record, analyze and incorporate the results from pilot projects of community based forest and pasture management into the formulation of a new World Bank project for Kyrgyzstan. UNIQUE, with long term experiences in community forest management worldwide and in implementing participative assessment methods, was selected in order to share these experiences and to support the study design, analysis, backstopping and training.
