Training and Second Verification Support
Background
The World Bank BioCarbon Fund supports the Kenya Sustainable Agriculture Land Management Project, which is the first African soil carbon project. This pilot project groups Verified Carbon Standard methodologies to address climate change adaptation and mitigation in the agriculture sector among smallholder farmers by improving agriculture productivity. The project is undertaken by roughly 3,000 registered farmer groups with about 60,000 small-scale subsistence farmers who carry out mixed-cropping systems on approx. 45,000 ha. UNIQUE supported the preparation of the 2nd verification through participatory training and capacity building of the monitoring team in Kenya. In particular, UNIQUE supported the development of a web-based Management Information System to more efficiently monitor activity data from smallholder farms.
