Forest and Wood-Based Industry Cluster
Background
The natural resource base of the regional timber industry in Jujuy is no longer secure. The private sector does not invest in forests and wood production due to a lack of technical capacity and adequate business models. Initial findings suggest that forest investments could earn up to 10-12% in interest. Reforestation and sustainable forest management would provide a continuous flow of timber as well as boost the economy of one of Argentina’s poorest provinces. Furthermore, it would inhibit deforestation and forest degradation, thus contributing to biodiversity conservation and climate protection.
