Background

In the context of the “Charta for Wood” the German government assigned a detailed analysis of the forest and wood processing sector. The overall objective was to raise the consumption of wood and wooden products due to their suitable environmental characteristics. The cluster analysis consisted of four packages: i) macroeconomic importance of the cluster; ii) availability of raw material in German forests; iii) raw material requirement of the wood processing industry and iv) SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats ) analysis on the competitiveness of the primary processing level and scenarios on the future framework of the cluster.
