Suitablity of Countries for the REDD Early Movers
Background
The REDD early movers (REM) program promotes forest conservation and rewards successful CO2 emission reductions in developing countries. The GIZ together with the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) designed guidelines for REDD+ jurisdictional approaches for REM to be implemented in REDD+ countries with funds from the German development cooperation and other donors. A major aim of REM and the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) Carbon Fund (CF) is to test innovative approaches to results-based payments in the land use sector. The objective of this project was to incorporate country-specific contextual knowledge and expertise in REDD+ pilot programs. In parallel, UNIQUE supported GNU (Germany, Norway, UK) donor coordination to improve the country selection process for the CF.
